Revelwood offers full on-site Veterinary Services with resident Veterinarian Dr Amanda Shoobridge BVSc.
From a young age Amanda has always loved animals and had a strong interest in Veterinary Medicine. Graduating from Sydney University in 2004, Amanda has always focused on becoming an Equine Veterinarian with her main interest in Reproduction. Throughout University Amanda gained valuable experience through placements with leading Equine Reproductive Specialists in Australia and New Zealand and has practiced artificial insemination since 1999 and performed her first successful embryo transfer in 2006.
Amanda has attended the International Symposium in Equine Reproduction in Kerkrade (2006) and Hamilton NZ (2014) as well as the International Symposium on Equine Embryo Transfer and Technology in Vancouver (2012) and Ghent (2016).
Mares can be sent to Revelwood for insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen. As Amanda does not offer ambulatory services, she is available to closely monitor the mares and inseminate as close to the ‘ideal’ time as possible. For example, mares admitted for frozen semen are often examined by ultrasound throughout the night (if required) to time the insemination as close to ovulation as possible.
We store frozen semen year round from many top European sires so even if you have left your stallion choice until the last minute we should have semen in stock on farm to suit!
Amanda also offers a service to owners with mares that have a poor breeding history. Mares that pool fluid or have a low conception rate often acheive pregnancy due to diagnostic tests and therapies carried out.
Revelwood also offers embryo transfer services. Embryo transfer in horses is becoming an increasingly popular way to breed performance mares. It is not only the ideal way to ride and breed at the same time but also a means of achieving multiple pregnancies from the one mare per season. Donor mares are only required to stay at the clinic for a handful of days per attempt, allowing them to continue in their regular training program. Embryos are transfered into one of our selected recipient mares with a fee payable upon a successful pregnancy being achieved.
Stallions are also catered for at Revelwood. Whether it is phantom training, semen collection or evaluation you require, Amanda is only too happy to discuss your needs. Semen is collected in our purpose built breeding barn (with full rubber floor) using either a jump mare or breeding mount, evaluated and shipped Australia wide. Revelwood will organise courier services to ensure the most reliable delivery of your semen.
Visiting mares are accommodated either in our purpose built, super safe yard complex or our new stable blocks. Individual well drained yards are 10x 10m with walk-in walk-out stables (with bedding), automatic waters, post and rail fencing, electric wire stand offs and diamond mesh. Stables are either single 5 x 5m boxes or double boxes for bigger mares or mares with foals. They are super safe- built out of steel and mesh with rubber surrounds, automatic waters and deep bedding. Mares are fed 3 times daily with Prydes feeds, chaff and hay. Supplements and special diets can be catered for. Mares can also be rugged and kept in work if required.
